Objective To investigate the role of Livin and Caspase-3 in the pathogenesis of tongue squamous cell carcinoma. Methods Immunohistochemical SP method was used to detect the expression of Livin and Caspase-3 in 48 cases of tongue squamous cell carcinoma and its relationship with the clinicopathological features of tongue squamous cell carcinoma. Results The positive rates of Livin and Caspase-3 in tongue squamous cell carcinoma were 58.33% (28/48) and 43.75% (21/48), respectively. Compared with normal tongue mucosa, the positive rate of Livin in tongue squamous cell carcinoma was significantly higher (P <0.05). The positive rate of Caspase-3 expression in tongue squamous cell carcinoma was significantly lower than that in the control group (P <0.05). The expression of Livin and Caspase-3 in tongue squamous cell carcinoma was correlated with TNM stage, histological type and lymph node metastasis There was a negative correlation between the expression of Livin and Caspase-3 (r = -0.362, P <0.05). Conclusion Livin and Caspase-3 play an important role in the carcinogenesis and progression of tongue squamous cell carcinoma.
