The audible simulation system will allow the sound system designer and his user to determine the sound system prior to installation based solely on the sound of the computer model. However, some users will go astray if the manufacturer of the audible simulation system can not determine the accuracy of the simulator before designing a true acoustic system. If you do not know the accuracy of the simulation in advance, users simply can not tell if the simulated system’s sound has any beneficial resemblance to the actual installed system. This article covers the main aspects of determining the accuracy of a simulator. There is a new term in this field, “authentication,” - to quantitatively describe how people hear voices in simulated and real environments. At the core of the authentication test is a subjectively based listening test that compares the listener’s response to the analog sound with the response to the sound of the actual sound system heard in a real environment. The output of the discrimination test is three numbers about the accuracy of the simulation. With guidance on the accuracy of the simulator, sound system designers and users will be able to listen to the recommended design using the audible simulation system.
