“Learning from history” is an excellent tradition of Chinese historiography and one of the core values of Chinese historiography. About 200 years ago, Hegel criticized and questioned his “history as a mirror in his philosophy of history”. However, Chinese academics paid little attention. Mr. Liu Jiahe noticed this problem and regarded it as an academic challenge. After many years of preparation, Mr. Liu responded to this challenge, but it has unfortunately not aroused further discussions. Now, he has some new thinking. Responding to challenges is a driving force for the continuous innovation and development of academic research. In this interview, Mr. Liu once again responded to Hegel’s challenge of “taking history as a mirror”, from which we can perceive the mission and responsibility of historians.
