After entering the Meiyu period in 1991, the heavy rainfall in the Taihu Lake basin hit an average of 550 millimeters over 40 days from June 11 to July 20. The maximum rainfall for the 30 days was 502 millimeters (353 millimeters in 1954), equivalent to about 80 years of annual rainfall, the largest year since records began in 1923. Affected by heavy rains, the Taihu Lake water level started to rise from 3.45 meters on June 12 to a peak of 4.79 meters on July 16, 1.29 meters above the warning level and 0.14 meters above the historical maximum level (4.65 meters in 1954) . The time span of the highest water level in history lasted 14 days. So that a large area of Taihu Lake Basin flood disaster, Shanghai Qingpu, Songjiang, gold
