为纪念西北大学地质系成立45周年,1984年11月15—21日,来自地质、石油、冶金、煤炭、地震、铁道、水电、化工、建材、核工业和大专院校等系统的校友代表200余名齐集一堂,举行了内容广泛、盛况空前的学术报告会。西大地质系兼职教授、中国科学院地学部委员周明镇、石油工业部总地质师阎敦实、国家地震局局长安启元、地质系创始人之一郁士元教授、著名古生物学家霍世诚教授、著名黄土及第四纪地质学家王永焱教授等应邀参加了大会。西北大学校长巩重起教授作了重要讲话,地质系系主任赵重远副教授作了《西北大学地质系历史回顾与展望》的报告,前西北大学地质系教授袁耀庭,西大地质系第一届毕业生康永孚高级工程师和五十年代的校友代表安启元同志等在会上作了热情洋溢的发言。前西北大学副校长、地质系主任、学部委员张伯声教授发表了录音讲话并题词
