According to a research report by the State Planning Commission Macroeconomics Institute, the most likely trend of urban development in China in the next 10 years will be the formation of an urban belt and an urban circle in the eastern coastal areas by size and region. The areas most likely to form urban belt and urban circle are the Pearl River Delta urban circle centered around Hong Kong and Guangzhou; the Yangtze River Delta urban circle centered around Shanghai; and the Beijing-Tianjin-Tangcheng urban belt centered around Beijing and Tianjin; Shenyang, Dalian as the center of the Liaodong Peninsula city belt; Jinan, Qingdao as the center of the Jiaodong Peninsula city belt.
