在涵濡理论基点上综合布罗代尔的“长时段”概念、梁启超的三个中国之说和许倬云的五个中国之说,可形成观照中国文论涵濡进程的四时段阐释框架:第一段是中原的中国文化与文论,是指秦统一前在夏商周三代(含春秋战国)涵濡的中国文化与文论;第二段是中国的中国文化与文论,是指秦汉两代的中国文化与文论;第三段是亚洲的中国文化与文论,是指魏晋南北朝到清代的中国文化与文论;第四段是世界的中国文化与文论,是指自晚清中国被纳入西方主导的世界格局以来至今的中国文化与文论。这种考察可给中国文论研究带来新眼光。从涵濡视角考察中国文论,意味着把后者视为中国自我与外来他者持续涵濡的产物。从文化涵濡过程考察中国文论,要求把文论同更为宽厚的文化过程紧密结合起来,确认中国文论既是中国文化的产物,又是它的具有一定代表性和特质的组成部分。

Viewing the Chinese literary theory from the perspective of meaning means that the latter should be regarded as the product of the continuous self-cultivation of both Chinese self and foreign ones. The study of Chinese literary theory from the perspective of cultural connotation requires close integration of literary theory with a more generous cultural process and confirms that Chinese literary theory is both a product of Chinese culture and an integral part of its representativeness and character.
