1980年首次报告Blom-Singer发音假体,60例喉切除的病人中90%成功地恢复了语音,发音假体在手术创造的气管食管瘘内起单向阀作用,当封闭气管口时呼出的气体分流至食管内。Charing Cross医院耳鼻咽喉科近8年来大约有300例咽喉切除术或咽喉切除术后语音不满意(食管音或“胃”发音)的病人采用了Blom-Singer假体。对病人进行语音疗法评估、电视荧光镜检查及吹气试验。详细报告了4例咽喉食管切除术和胃咽吻合后通过原先制作的活瓣不能发音的病人,入院行气管胃穿刺安装
