Middle temporal area (MT / V5) plays an important role in visual motor processing. MT neurons have a strong selectivity for the direction of motion of the object, and the direction selectivity of such cells is considered as the neural basis for the movement direction perception. Experiments have shown that directional selectivity is affected by the attention, For 2 stages. Previous studies in this group found that the cells in the anesthetized Rhesus macaque degenerated in a directionally selective manner, but this decline was a process-averaged result over time and did not reveal its neural mechanism in time. Therefore, in order to further explore the neural mechanism of decreased motor direction perception, single cell technique was used to study the early stage direction selectivity (esDB) of MT cells during normal aging in the MT area of anesthetized macaques , The results show that the early macaque MT cell area significantly reduced the early direction of selectivity, with a strong early direction-selective cells significantly reduced. This result further reveals that the early decline of cellular directional selectivity in the MT region may mediate a decrease in visual motor perception.
