Mark Twain is the most outstanding novelist and speaker in the United States in the nineteenth century and the literary master and important pioneer in the realist literary world so far. His works often expose the reality of society mercilessly, and often can arouse the strong resonance of readers. The most commonly used technique in his novels’ works is irony. The “election governor” is the representative of Mark Twain’s middle and late short stories. In this work, the author makes full use of the irony writing tactics to criticize the hypocritical democratism and the naked political play in capitalist society, which deserves our in-depth discussion And a long time aftertaste. This article mainly analyzes and studies the irony features of “running for the governor.”
