§2-5 General Indicators of Separation Efficiency - Resolution K_1 and R 1. Definition: The purpose of any chromatographic procedure is to separate the components in a mixture. Mixture of components to be separated well, first, the peak should be narrow, that is 2 △ t_ (1/2) or 2 △ V_ (1/2) value is smaller; Second, the distance between the two peaks should be large. The former is how to choose the best operating conditions to improve the efficiency of the column, that is, chromatographic kinetics. The latter is how to choose the stationary phase, the mobile phase, to improve the material in the distribution of the two phases (adsorption), that is, thermodynamic problems.
