In the 30 years since the reform and opening up, the demand in China’s domestic market has been strong, maintaining a rapidly growing trend. The total retail sales of social consumer goods increased from 155.9 billion yuan in 1978 to 89.21 billion yuan in 2007, an increase of 56 times with an average annual increase of 15%. However, judging from the urban-rural market structure, two “three-sevens” emerged in 30 years: in 1978, the total retail sales in the rural market stood at 105.4 billion yuan, accounting for about the same proportion of total retail sales of social goods
