[Objective] To probe into the mental health status of boys in lower grades in a science and engineering university and provide reference for the health education in schools. [Methods] With the self-rating psychiatric symptom scale (SCL-90), a male college student at a university of science and technology in first and second grade was sampled and 348 valid samples were tested for comparative analysis. [Results] There were 28 students (8.05%) with at least one score of SCL-90 score greater than or equal to 3 in the subjects. There was no significant difference among students in different grades, which was lower than that of the national college students The difference was statistically significant, but higher than the normal level of mental health in China. [Conclusion] The male undergraduates in a science and engineering university are a mental health group.
