2011年8月23日,中共中央党史研究室正式批复认定广东平远县在土地革命战争时期属于中央苏区范围。据此,平远成为广东省继大埔县、南雄县(今南雄市)、饶平县、龙川县之后第5个被认定的中央苏区县。
On August 23, 2011, the CPC Central Party History Research Office officially approved that Pingyuan County, Guangdong Province belonged to the Central Soviet Area during the Agrarian Revolutionary War. As a result, Pingyuan became the fifth Central Soviet Area in Guangdong Province following Dapu County, Nanxiong County (now Nanxiong City), Raoping County and Longchuan County.
