Missile guidance systems are evolving in several directions: GPS is expanding to include both old and new missile systems, automatic target recognition is being deployed, and ballistic missile defense programs improve the skill levels of data fusion and infrared sensors. The U.S. Navy’s regional defensive anti-ballistic missile system, developed by Missile Systems, illustrates the challenges faced by these technologies and is based on radar-guided “standard missiles”, 2 batches 4 (ie, batch # 4A) .
