The Franz contact electrode catheter was used to record the monophasic action potential (MAP) on the endocardium with electrocardiogram (ECG) recorded synchronously during experimental acute myocardial infarction in 14 anesthetized chest open canines, and the characteristic changes were observed serially, together with real-time analysed with a microcomputer. As soon as the left anterior descending coronary (LAD) was occluded, in the endocardium infarct zone were found a significant diminution of the monophasic action potential amplitude (MAPA) and the maximal depolarization rate of phase 0, and sequence of elevation, shortening, and disappearance of the plateau phase in turn. The monophasic action potential duration at 50% repolarization (MAPD50) was shortened in a small degree, but the monophasic action potential dura
