In the era of unprecedented development of distance education, the question of what distance education, distance education and education are, and how to manage and develop distance education still deserve our in-depth reflection on striding forward. Fortunately, there are always many wise men around us, who look at the development of the whole field with wisdom and rich experience. Grenville Rummer, the protagonist of this interview, is one of them. Rumoulor joined the Open University of the United Kingdom in the early 1970s, giving him the opportunity to participate in various practice areas of distance education and gain a wealth of experience. Therefore, his research interests and achievements are extremely extensive, involving many aspects such as the basic theoretical system of distance education, system organization, management and evaluation, and distance education economics research.
