The characters in “Dream of the Red Chamber” are given all kinds of nicknames, making their personality clear and active on the paper. This article compares and analyzes the translations of some typical nicknames in three Japanese versions of A Dream of Red Mansions (translated by Ito Shibun, translated by Matsumoto Morimoto and translated by Iizuka Ryuten) and classified the nicknames involved according to their constituent types. The reader looks at the nickname translation in literary works from a double perspective to better understand and study the diversity of translations and the communication of cultural information carried by the textual carriers during the translation process.
