1941年12月7日珍珠港事件爆发、美国对日宣战之际,我的父亲容兆珍是洛杉矶的一位石油工程师。他同时也是美军后备役军官,早在斯坦福大学就读期间他便加入了大学后备役军官训练团(ROTC)。他和我的母亲李如心、他们三岁的孩子珍妮,以及幼小的我,一家人和我的祖父母一同住在宁静的加利福利亚小镇惠蒂尔。
On December 7, 1941, when Pearl Harbor broke out and the United States declared war on Japan, my father, Rong Zhaozhen, was an oil engineer in Los Angeles. He is also a US military reserve officer who joined ROTC as early as his time at Stanford. He lived with my mother Li Ruxin, their three-year-old baby Jenny, and my young family with my grandparents in the tranquil California town of Whittier.
