An analysis of the thickness and the full grade of the quartz core veins in Western Spain shows that both are approximately power-law distributions, implying that there is an implicit fractal relationship between the two. The logarithmic-logarithmic plot of cumulative frequency (N) versus pulse thickness (t) shows systematic variations between them and the gold grade. The exponential D in the power formula N = Ct ~ (-D) is a lower value in the high gold grade, indicating greater expansion in thicker veins, which is interpreted as providing interconnected channels for gold-bearing fluids. Therefore, studying the distribution of vein thickness may be a feasible way to distinguish between ore-bearing structures and ore-free structures in vein type deposits.
