In order to investigate the diagnostic value of adenosine deaminase activity in ascites on tuberculous peritonitis, the authors studied 41 cases of bacteriologically confirmed tuberculous peritonitis and 41 controls. Both groups consisted of 20 males and 21 females. The average age of tuberculous peritonitis was 43 years and that of the control group was 48 years. In the control group, 12 cases of alcoholic cirrhosis, 5 cases of unexplained cirrhosis, 12 cases of malignant lesions, 3 cases of pancreatic ascites and 9 cases caused by mixed causes.
