This paper conducts a random sample survey on the language life of primary and secondary school students born in Suzhou city. The survey found that the group formed a language-based life mainly in Putonghua during its integration into the local community in Suzhou, highly agreeing with the affinity, social reputation and practical value of Putonghua, indicating that the influence of Putonghua promotion exceeds the pressure of assimilation in the local community. Gender, place of birth, parental education and occupational categories are important factors affecting second-generation language choices. The article also analyzes the reasons for the shift of language to Putonghua from the perspective of language practicability. This paper argues that this group will form a new speech community in the future and will have a far-reaching impact on the city’s future language life.
