The use of chirp to modulate the light intensity is a new laser intensity modulation technique that combines the advantages of both pulse and single frequency modulation. Its autocorrelation function is closer to the delta function, so it has a wider frequency spectrum than the pseudo-random noise code modulation commonly used in correlated silence detection, which is a good method for rapid detection of material optical, thermal and mechanical properties. This article will outline the basic principles of the technology, experimental devices and preliminary experimental results. This work has been funded by the National Natural Science Foundation.
