Finding out gallium-phosphorus-gallium-arsenide slices from a common red-emitting diode (LED_s) can be used as a cheap, reproducible, and durable temperature sensor. It can be 4 - 400K temperature range. Its low thermal inertia results in a response time much less than 1 millisecond below 2.5K.
