詹天佑(1861——1919)字眷诚,安徽婺源(今江西)人,生于广东南海一个没落的世家。 1871年年底,清廷派容闳到香港主持“选送幼童出洋肄业”的招生工作。第二年初,詹天佑到香港参加考试,被录取。8月第一批留美幼童,自上海赴美。在美国小学中学毕业后,1878年考入美国耶鲁大学雪费尔命名的科学学堂,在土木工程系学习铁路工程。 在大学学习期间,刻苦钻研,成绩优异。数学方面成绩最优秀,大学一二年级曾获得数学奖金。毕业考试中成绩是全班第一,毕业论文“码头起重机的研究”很有价值。1881年6月毕业于耶鲁大学。
Zhan Tianyou (1861--1919) word Affinity Cheng, Anhui Wuyuan (now Jiangxi) people, was born in Guangdong, a declining family in the South China Sea. At the end of 1871, the Qing Government sent a delegation to Hong Kong to host the “enrollment of young children abroad” job. The second year, Zhan Tianyu to Hong Kong to take the exam, was admitted. August First batch of young children in the United States, from Shanghai to the United States. After graduating from elementary school in the United States, he was admitted to Xue Feier’s Science School at Yale University in 1878 to study railway engineering in the Department of Civil Engineering. Studying hard at the university, excellent results. The best in mathematics, college sophomore has received a mathematical bonus. Graduation exam results in the first class, graduation thesis “research dock wharf” is of great value. June 1881 graduated from Yale University.
