Due to the vast differences in history and culture, it is generally accepted that the two languages, English and Chinese, have great differences in form and meaning. Metaphor is a language phenomenon that exists in various languages, and English and Chinese are no exception. And emotion is a recognized abstract concept, so the expression in various languages generally adopts metaphorical approach. Emotional metaphors in the two languages have many commonalities and some differences. “Happy” and “Sadness” are two totally opposite emotions. By comparing the similarities and differences between the “happy” and the “sad” metaphors in both English and Chinese, it reflects that the commonness of English and Chinese emotional metaphors is greater than Differences, and explains the reasons for these commonalities and differences exist.
