The physicists at the National Institute of Standards and Technology have developed a method for measuring the absolute radiance of the infrared spectrum by using photon-pair down-conversion techniques to generate photon pairs that measure better than 3%. Contrary to the traditional indirect use of radiant power and aperture structures to evaluate spectral radiance, this is a direct and sensitive method of radiometric sensitivity. This two-photon method can also be probed with high-performance visible radiation measurements
