NEC recently Yibu, the company in the world for the first time to develop 1G bit dynamic random access memory chips. This chip is stored information equivalent to 4,000 pages of newspapers. NEC Corporation is the result of this development at the International Semiconductor Circuits Conference organized by the International Institute for Semiconductor Development on February 15th in the United States. The 1G DRAM developed by NEC can store 2.2 billion transistors and capacitors on a single chip. The size of a chip is 2.5 cm × 3.6 cm (9 cm 2), which is equivalent to 2.5 to 2.8 times 256M. The chip still partially extends the previous method of dividing the transistors and capacitors into smaller cells, reducing the area by 30% and the circuit pitch to 0.25 microns. A chip in 1G DRAM can store 64 million characters or fifteen minutes of screen information. In order to store screen information, it is indispensable to store large-capacity DRAMs such as 256M or 1G in multimedia-related devices such as portable terminals for personal use.
