The First Affiliated Hospital of Suzhou Medical College is a comprehensive hospital that undertakes medical teaching tasks. The original hospital was equipped with 36 pulmonary beds and 36 beds, just like other general hospitals, only busy with emergency and critically ill patients and routine out-patient work. Most of the tuberculosis departments of urban general hospitals were cut off under the attacks of Lin Biao and the “gang of four.” Our hospital is no exception. For more than a decade, the anti-tuberculosis work in Suzhou Municipality has been solely responsible for the prevention and control of tuberculosis in Suzhou City. Even in the past, there was no complete prevention and control network. Therefore, a large-scale prevention and control work has never been carried out. Last year, Suzhou Municipal Health Bureau began to attach importance to tuberculosis prevention and control work, in February 1978
