This article describes the long-term effective antimicrobial properties of EPDM products. This product can be compact or foamed (foam or sponge), but also in a multi-layered form of both mixed state, it can resist a variety of different fungi. Due to the negative effects of silver-based compounds on curing agents and accelerators, such as sulfur or cure systems, the effective anti-microbial ability of vulcanized rubber articles is diminished. However, the patent uses peroxide curatives that allow the article to cure and not irreversibly bind silver ions to it, resulting in long term antimicrobial performance of the rubber article. Rubber products must also contain fillers and plasticizers in order to make rubber products with stiffness, flexural modulus, tensile strength, wear resistance, elongation and other properties, but also can enhance the anti-microbial control of rubber products .
