严子陵“不事王侯,高尚其事”的高洁人格,以及他不含任何功利目的只求真正获得心灵自由的隐逸风范,使其垂钓之地成为中国历史上十几处钓台中最著名的一个,千百年来赢得众多文人墨客的吟咏和凭吊。而且到了宋代,在宋人“静弱”、“内敛”、“深微”的文化心理影响下,其隐逸心态都是以唯美、自由倾向为旨归,这正与严子陵的隐逸精神相契合,因而宋代有关严子陵钓台的近二十首词作,基本都是借凭吊高士严子陵来表达词人“披蓑垂钓”的隐逸情怀,从而丰富了宋词的隐逸主题。
