The opening of Wal-Mart stores reduced the wages of workers in the surrounding area by 1% and the grocery store employees by 1.5%. Research shows that as a result of Wal-Mart, total retail sales in the United States decreased by a total of 4.5 billion U.S. dollars, with most of the decline in revenue occurring in the metropolis.
