１９９９年１２月１３日，中科院副院长许智宏院士正式出任北京大学校长。毕业于北大的许智宏若干后后重返北大，连他自己都没有想到。对于正在落实科教兴国战略、力创世界一流大学的北大人说，这无疑是令人欣慰的，因为他将促进北大与中科院的强强联合，更多高层次的创新人才将不断涌现，正如许智宏在北大讲台上所在地说的那样，“我在北大读书时，中科院的教师来北大讲课，希望这种状况恢复起来，科教联手，共创未来。” 一双双期待的目光都集中有许智宏的身上，人们希望感受这位老“北大人”的人格魅力，探寻他求学与科研的足迹……
On December 13, 1999, Academician Xu Zhihong, vice president of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, officially became the president of Peking University. After graduating from Xu Zhihong at Peking University, he returned to Peking University and did not even think of himself.
