Diabetes patients eat fish twice a week, helping to prevent the most serious complication - diabetic nephropathy. The findings were published in the American Journal of Nephrology, the official journal of the National Kidney Foundation. Dr. Amanda Adler, of Ardenbuluk Hospital, University of Cambridge, studied the diet of 22,000 middle-aged and elderly people. It found that more than 8% of diabetics had proteinuria symptoms, compared with less than 1% of those with diabetes. Protein in the urine is an early manifestation of kidney disease. Adler said. As conditions worsen, they develop into more serious kidney disease and may even increase the chance of a heart attack.
