大白菜產量高,品質好,耐貯藏,是秋冬以至早春供应的主要蔬菜之一。在湖北省的西部北以及漢水沿岸各縣栽培面積較廣;在武漢郊区以往栽培面積甚小;为了这一主要蔬菜在郊区的發展上提供栽培的技術,華中農学院蔬菜教研組曾進行过幾年的栽培研究,1955年獲得了初步結果,1956年基本上解决了在生產上的主要技術問題獲得比較高的產量,播种面積3.65畝,品种为福山大白菜,于8月20日至23日播种到11月30日至12月12日收獲,每畝最高產量16005斤,最低15174斤,平均15378.7斤(荒菜)。茲將幾个比較重要的技術措施分述如下:
