传统武术中,北方拳派有无极拳、太极拳、两仪拳、六合拳、七星拳、八卦掌……多以易理融于拳理。福建拳种则多象形拳。在福建影响较大且有代表性的地方传统拳种共37钟(见林荫生《福建武术拳械录》),可见鹤、龙、虎、地术(狗)、梅、五兽、牛、鸡、金狮、鲟、鱼、猴、龙虎等身影。究其原因可谓是一方水土养一方人:福建地僻多走兽鸟虫,先民仿其特点创造动作以适应环境与生产。奇特的还有,传说中拳术的创始人多是女人,如方七娘、梨山老母女徒8
