由中国科学院发起组织的1980年青藏高原科学讨论会于5月25日至6月1日在北京召开。有260多位科学工作者参加了这次讨论会,其中有近80位来自十七个国家的外国学者。青藏高原被公认为是解决地球动力学和生物区系起源等一系列重要理论问题的关键地区之一。这次讨论会上报告和讨论了240多篇论文,其内容涉及到高原的地球物理条件、地质历史与隆起原因;高原隆起对动、植物区系特征与演化的影响;高原地理环境的形成。会后将出版英文版的论文专集。根据这次讨论会上所公布的高原地球物理条件,简述如下:
The 1980 Tibetan Plateau Science Symposium, organized by the Chinese Academy of Sciences, was held in Beijing from May 25 to June 1. More than 260 scientific workers attended the seminar, including nearly 80 foreign scholars from 17 countries. The Qinghai-Tibet Plateau is recognized as one of the key areas to solve a series of important theoretical issues such as the geodynamics and the origin of biological flora. More than 240 papers were published and discussed in this symposium, which covered the geophysical conditions, geological history and uplift of the plateau; the influence of plateau uplift on fauna and flora characteristics and evolution; and the formation of plateau geography.
