My companions and I departed from Piazza del Popolo, all the way along Via Del Corso and onto Via Condotti. As we came to the Spanish Steps, we deliberately did not take the subway elevator, but walked up the stairs step by step as if in a ritual. After arriving at the main street, a magnificent building immediately came into view, this is both our destination and the crown of the Spanish Steps— The Hassler Roma.
Proud for Centuries
This year, the iconic five-star Hotel Hassler Roma marks its 125th anniversary. Since its opening in 1893, Hassler Roma has always enjoyed the coveted position as the most prestigious hotel in Rome, commanding one of the most exclusive views in the world over the churches, domes and rooftops of the Eternal City. Set theatrically at the top of the Spanish Steps, next to the magnificent 16th-century Trinità dei Monti church, Hassler has attracted royalty, celebrity, writers, artists and musicians, opinion leaders from all over the world with its one-of-a-kind status. The hotel acted as Eisenhower's HQ before the war, the place that Audrey Hepburn called home while filming Roman Holiday, and the honeymoon spot for Grace Kelly and Prince Rainier.
The Hassler Roma is owned and managed by Roberto E. Wirth, fifth generation of the famous Swiss hotelier family.
The dynasty of Roberto E. Wirth's hotelier family began with Franz-Josef Bucher, now considered one of the pioneers of the hotel industry in Europe. In the 1870s, Bucher bought and developed the Trittalp area of Switzerland, and within a couple of years, he built several hotels and specialized in a new field, that of transportation and lift facilities, building funiculars. However, Franz-Josef Bucher's real passion was the hotel business. Therefore, in 1890 he sent his son-in-law, Heinrich Wirth, to Rome to become the manager of the Hotel Minerva, in the city center. In 1921, Oscar Wirth, Heinrich's youngest son, followed in his family's footsteps and became partner with a German hotelier, Franz Nistelweck, son-in-law of the Swiss Hotelier, Albert Hassler. Together they managed the Hassler hotels until 1964, when Oscar became the sole owner of the prestigious Hassler hotel. In 1939, Oscar demolished the building almost entirely in order to rebuild it. Thereafter the hotel was requisitioned by the U.S. Air Force to serve as their Rome headquarters during World War II. The new Hassler was finally opened to the public in 1947. Today, Roberto Wirth considers the Hassler his passion, home and family heritage. His commitment, dedication and personal touch are what have led the hotel to achieve its position as one of Europe's top hotels and the preferred destination for the elite society's sojourns in Rome.

Imàgo
Imàgo, Intertwined with Dreams and Visions
Imàgo, the Hassler,s 6th floor panoramic restaurant is rewarded with a Michelin star. Soft music, elegant and refined décor, and the romantic play of light reflecting on the mirrors, all conspire to create a physical sense of being in another time and space in memorable history. Every detail had been examined to assure the greatest exposure possible to the incomparable view which only this restaurant in Rome offers. Now, Roberto E. Wirth, assisted by Francesco Apreda, has decided to make some changes of the spaces. The restyling involves the remake of the flooring with the laying of carpet; a new lighting system with a direct light over the table to focus the attention on dishes; the replacement of the table linen and of some components of table layout; an open-style wine cellar has been created. An explosion of Oriental flavors combined with Italy,s rich history and culture is key to the success of Imàgo.
The Most Beautiful City Oasis
The Palm Court is a charming garden restaurant & bar that offers welcome respite from the Roman summer heat, and a luxurious retreat surrounded by ancient stone walls, decorated with charming wrought-iron furniture, flowers and ivy. Here, it offers a wide choice of food all day long: coffee with home-made cornetti, a quick lunch that includes also light dishes; ice creams and cakes for an afternoon break, cocktails, romantic dinners, and late-night drinks accompanied by live piano music.
Another not-to-be-missed highlight is Salone Eva, the preferred Rome fine dining rendezvous for locals and guests. It offers an elegant and refined atmosphere along with delicious menus for breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea, and dinner, along with the Hassler's incomparable service. The Hassler Bar is another surprise hides right behind Salone Eva. Surrounded by dark wood, red leather upholstery and gilded mirrors, it is like stepping back in time. At the Hassler Bar it is possible to taste exclusive cocktails such us the famous "Veruschkas," an invigorating mix of pomegranate juice and champagne!
Stepping into the Hassler is like setting foot into History itself. On every floor, the guests can appreciate flowers-and-birds-themed paintings on the ancient Chinese-style porcelain and antique chairs decorated with Western badges, so that they may relish another kind of quietude, through a finely-sealed world, that seems to defy the disturbances of the modern society, and bring out a brisker mood. On the Spanish Steps, you can always find several hundreds of visitors from all over the world, it is difficult to imagine that only less than a hundred meters away, existe such a beautiful place with depth, waiting to be visited and discovered, by the like-minded in that moment frozen in time.
