砂作为路面材料,由来已久,但一般都是作垫层使用或作基层的掺合料嵌缝料,因砂是一种松散体,若无固定的四侧,顶面是不能承受任何压力的。近年来随着油路的发展,对基层材料的水稳性要求甚严,我省在缺乏石料的江汉平原等地区盛产河砂,利用这种材料作油路基层可以大大降低造价及提高质量,而且施工不受雨季影响,从1974年到现在,我省荆州及黄冈等地区铺筑试验路及扩大试验路十余公里,效果尚好,现有些地、县拟大规模推广,于是要求我们回答以下问题:纯砂作为基层材料,能适应多大的交通量?灰土封面的厚度与什么因素有关,其关系如何?
