In a recent book, Ethics and Librarians (1985), which I and Ms. Platenis recently published, we examined in more detail the professional nature and professional ethics of American libraries and conducted a study of professional ethics Inspection of the history of Fan This issue has drawn increasing attention since the beginning of the twentieth century and has led to several officially recognized ethical clauses that are not laws that must be adhered to and that depend on personal judgment and the needs of librarian practice. The American Library Association has worked for a code of ethics from 1972 to 1981. 1975 guidelines initially formed, after a period of testing, to be amended, formally established in 1981 (see appendix). In 1985, the American Medical Library Association formed a committee to study codes of professional ethics. Ms. Brand, of the Meininger Foundation, is the chairman of this ad hoc committee, who sent me a copy of every document of the committee. Based on these documents, as well as the American Library Association’s Code of Ethics, I realized seven basic, intelligence-related ethical issues.
