桃是人们喜爱的水果之一。瓜果之乡的兰州,7月上旬就能陆续见到早香玉、京红、庆丰等早熟桃上市;色鲜味浓的自凤桃在7月底8月初集中成熟(白凤桃在兰州桃产区近几年的栽培面积迅速扩大,仅安宁区就有3311亩,占全区栽培面积的52％)。但其它鲜食优质桃品种极少。随着当前人民生活水平的提高,消费者对果品质量要求高,需求量也不断增加;生产者为了获得最大利益,也要求种植商品性高(果品外观美、个大、食用品质好、耐贮运等)和栽培性状好(高产、稳产、抗病虫害、栽培管理容易)的优良桃品种。
