III. INFRARED DETECTORS IN ARRAYS Infrared detectors are used to directly or indirectly convert incident radiant energy into electrical signals. We will focus on this type of device called photon detectors, which convert photons directly into free carriers in semiconductors by photo-excitation. The second category is the heat detector.
