Pyroelectric imager is about to become a practical instrument. Due to recent improvements in performance, this instrument has demonstrated its utility in providing long wave infrared imaging systems characterized by moderate levels of performance, as well as uncooled work and relatively low cost. This article summarizes the many ways pyroelectric imaging is performed and the pyroelectric video tube is discussed in greater detail in detail as the current advances in this type of pyroelectric imager indicate great value in use now and in the near future. An example is given of the pyroelectric imaging system and the aberration processing technology developed by the Naval Weapon Center. Identify areas for further study as well as the expected level of performance and possible applications.
