UNICEF has always attached great importance to the planning of child survival and development (CSD) in the poor and backward regions of the world. Infant mortality (IMR) and child under-five mortality (USMR) in these areas are high, and primary health care is lagging behind. Services for children in primary health care contribute to child survival and development programs and can be called Basic Child Health (BCHC).
