Objective: To observe the effect of tanshinone II A sulfonate on lipid peroxidation in rabbits with myocardial ischemia reperfusion injury. METHODS: Twenty rabbits were randomly divided into three groups: sham operation group, ischemia-reperfusion group (model group), and tanshinone IIA sodium sulfonate group (DS-201). The left coronary artery was ligated for 40 min and then reperfusion for 60 min. After 60 minutes of reperfusion, blood was taken and the plasma MDA content and CK, LDH, SOD activity were measured. The SOD activity and MDA content in myocardial tissue were also measured. RESULTS: Compared with the model group, the plasma CK, LDH, vitality, MDA content and myocardial MDA content in DS-201 group were significantly lower (P<0.01). Compared with the model group, the SOD activity in myocardial tissue and plasma was significantly higher in the DS-201 group (P<0.05). Conclusion: Sodium tanshinone II A sulfonate has a protective effect on myocardial ischemia reperfusion injury in rabbits. Its mechanism of action is related to increasing SOD activity, scavenging free radicals, and inhibiting lipid peroxidation.
