Today, what we call “tradition” is generally the artistic interest, experience, and work of older artists. Those recognized masters of art, leave us for decades. These seem to tell us that it is very hard for an artist to get a high opinion of his time. Some artists nowadays say that tradition should be respect for ancient times. When you studied the Ming and Qing Dynasties, I learned Song and Yuan Dynasties. When I studied Han and Tang dynasties, it seemed that the more ancient the object of law, the higher the academic level and artistic value. If your work is like a famous contemporary artist, you are considered as having no own style. This is a shameful thing. At least we must learn to be appointed master of the year, Wuchang Shuo, Huang Binhong, Qi Baishi and others are recognized, otherwise, will be despised. This reflects the blind “thin and ancient” thoughts of some artists.
