The American Journal of Industrial Research, No.6,1972 reported a new principle of chromatographic separation based on the help of “Water-base column for pollution analysis.” Experiments by the U.S. Bureau of Standards show that aqueous complex metal ions can be used as a stationary phase in gas-liquid chromatography. Hydrocarbon ions have been used to divide the hydrocarbons into groups to separate deuterated unsaturates from their light isomers. This is in contrast to traditional gas-liquid chromatography where the stationary phase is a non-volatile solution. This technique is being applied to analyze hydrocarbons in water pollution.
