目前,很多地方上网仍采用电话线连接MODEM的方式,但用这一传统组合传输速度太慢,往往需要有足够的耐性。从理论上讲,MODEM速率的物理极限是64Kbps,无法满足越来越多的网络多媒体对吞吐量的需求。现在,使用ADSL(Asymmetric Digital SubscriberLine,非对称数字用户线)技术,通过一条电话线,以比普通MODEM快一百倍的速度浏览因特网,通过网络学习、娱乐、购物,享受先进的数据服务如视频会议、视频点播、网上音乐、网上电视、网上MTV的乐趣,已经在很多地方成为现实。由此看来,ADSL好处多多,那么它会成为未来网络接入的主流
