Objective To investigate the correlation between the level of soluble endoglin (sEng) and the birth weight of prenatal serum in preeclampsia patients. Methods From July 2011 to January 2012, 41 preeclampsia patients and 19 normal pregnant women in the hospital of Chaoyang Central Hospital of Liaoning Province were enrolled in prenatal period. Serum was detected by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) kit SEng level, record all perinatal birth weight, Apgar score, data using Pearson test for correlation analysis. Results The level of serum sEng in preeclampsia group was significantly higher than that in the normal pregnancy group (P <0.05). The preeclampsia had the most significant increase in early onset of hair loss and the difference was significant compared with normal and late-onset group (P <0.001) . Seven of the 23 early-onset patients received abortion termination of pregnancy. Perinatal birth weight preeclampsia group was significantly lower than the normal newborn group (P <0.05), of which the lowest in early-onset group, and normal or late-onset group difference was significant (P <0.001). In addition, 19 neonates with normal Apgar scores at 1 minute postpartum were all full marks (10 points), significantly higher than those in preeclampsia (P <0.001). Pearson test showed that there was a significant negative correlation between serum sEng level and birth weight of prenatal pregnant women (r = -0.54, P <0.01), but no correlation was found between sEng levels and gestational age in each group (P> 0.05 ). Conclusion This study found that prenatal maternal serum sEng levels and birth weight was negatively correlated, predictive of eclampsia and maternal and infant prognosis of important reference value.
