加拿大政府自1959年开始在全国实施由政府组织的农作物保险,至今已历时34年。政府通过一定数量的保费支持及保险行政经费支出,有效地将联邦政府、省政府及农民的利益紧紧地联系在一起,实现了政府预定的经营农业保险的长期目标,起到了保护农民积极性、稳定农业生产、促进农业发展的作用。从1960年至1993年,农作物保险总承保面积达8.3亿英亩,总承保金额617.28亿加元,收取保险费64.82亿加元,总赔付67.16亿加元。
